WAV Course Introduction
The Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) Class is a mandatory 3 hour class required by the Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) for licensed drivers to be trained in sensitivity toward passengers with disabilities, wheelchair assistance and securement, accessible dispatch, and accessible vehicle rules and regulations.

Why is WAV Class Necessary?
Ground transportation is a right guaranteed to all people regardless of disability. Thousands of NewYorkers and people visiting New York have disabilities and many use wheelchairs. In compliance with the American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA) the TLC is expanding the availability of accessible vehicles in New York City. To learn more about the ADA visit the website www.ada.gov.

Why is WAV Class Important for TLC Drivers?
All TLC drivers are required to take the class even if they are not driving wheelchair accessible vehicles. New drivers must complete the class before the 90 day expiration date of their TLC license application and existing drivers must complete the class before their renewal expiration date. Half of all yellow cabs are scheduled for conversion by 2020 and 20% of all Street Hail Liveries (SHL) green taxis are scheduled for conversion. FHV bases are also required to comply with ADA regulations by providing accessible service to customers with disabilities.

Class schedule: Class starts at 6 pm every Wednesday. Please  call 718-746-4400 to enroll.
